Story Behind the Vehicle

Intro

1969 BMW (E3) 2800 in Atlantic Blue over black leatherette interior with exterior chrome trim. It has the 2.8 liter inline 6-cylinder (M30) engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission and showing 130k miles. This is the first-year model of the E3, and the 18th BMW model built and created in the U.S. It was purchased new in Southern California by a BMW CCA enthusiast. It then went to his son in Germany returned to California then NJ and finally the seller in New York who is the fourth owner.

Exterior

This 2800 is painted in Atlantic Blue with exterior chrome trim. It featured an independent suspension system with front MacPherson struts and rear semi-trailing arms with coil springs. It has 14-inch steel wheels and chrome hubcaps wrapped in Firestone 195/70R 14 tires. Seller notes the paint is faded with evidence of corrosion in areas.

Interior

The interior is upholstered in factory black leatherette with the original dash, rare Momo “petri” steering wheel, working rare Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio and matching Coco floor mats. All gauges and clock work. The AC does not work and needs a service. The trunk lid lining needs to be reset.

Mechanicals

The 1974 BMW Bavaria is powered by a 2.8-liter (2,788 cc) M30 inline-six engine, producing 170 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and roughly 174–185 lb-ft of torque. The seller restored the gas tank, sending unit, new Dual Weber carbs and new Electronic Ignition by Petronix. Partial service records are included in the sale.

Seller Comments

I purchased this car in March 2024 and completed a lot of mechanic restoration to make this a nice, spirited driver. Analogous to a relay race, I am seeking a vintage BMW mechanic or enthusiast to buy this rare gem to continue what I started including the bodywork. I can offer to assist the new owner with sourcing parts or other aspects of car. I have a lot of paperwork since new and can include a nice set of vintage BMW wheels if desired.
